The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam, the word of God (Allah in Arabic) revealed by the archangel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over the course of 23 years of his life.
The Holy Qur’an is the primary source of religious authority and moral guidance for Muslims around the world. It is written in classical Arabic and consists of 114 chapters, called suras, which vary in length and cover a wide range of topics, including theology, morality, law, history and cosmology.
The suras are revelations that Muhammad received at different times in his life in response to various situations and questions posed by his followers and detractors.
The Qur’an is, for the Muslim, a complete and final guide to human life, providing instructions on how to live in harmony with God’s will and attain salvation in the hereafter.
In addition to its spiritual and moral importance, the Qur’an is also valued for its poetic beauty and unique literary style, making it a highly influential work in Arabic literature and Islamic culture in general.
